Hi! Is the logbook in your name, and when was it last serviced?

What you can list

Serious buyers ask the same questions. Answer them first.

List vehicles, parts and accessories you own outright and can document.

Cars

Saloons, hatchbacks, SUVs and pick-ups.

Motorbikes

Commuter bikes, boda bikes and scooters.

Tyres and parts

Tyres, rims, batteries, panels and lights.

Accessories

Roof racks, car audio, covers and car seats.

Category-specific guidance

Paperwork is the first question, not the last.

A vehicle listing without ownership detail wastes everybody's time, and so does a part without its fitment. Lead with the documents and the facts buyers check.

A strong vehicle listing includes

Buyer-ready
  1. 1
    Year, mileage and engine size

The three figures every buyer filters on before anything else.

  2. 2
    Ownership documentation

Confirm the logbook is in your name and available for verification.

  3. 3
    Service and accident history

State what has been repaired or replaced, and what has not.

  4. 4
    Photos in daylight, all round

Every panel, the interior, the odometer and any dent or rust.

Simple from the start

How to sell a car, motorbike or car parts online in Kenya

Step 01

Photograph the complete vehicle

Wash the vehicle and photograph the exterior, interior, dashboard, odometer, engine area, tyres and visible damage in daylight. Capture every side as well as the cabin and load space. The photographs should present the vehicle accurately without hiding dents, warning lights, worn tyres or interior damage. For a part or accessory, photograph every side, the part number and any wear.

Step 02

Provide the details buyers verify

Enter the make, model, year, mileage, engine size, fuel type, transmission and location. Describe the service history, ownership status, mechanical condition, accident history and known faults honestly. State the asking price and document availability without publishing sensitive identification or ownership numbers. For parts and accessories, give the exact fitment, size and condition instead.

Step 03

Inspect, transfer and release

Answer serious questions and allow the buyer to arrange an independent inspection. Agree on payment and ownership-transfer arrangements before meeting. Verify that payment has cleared and complete the required transfer process before releasing the vehicle, keys or original documents. Never rely solely on a payment screenshot.

Meeting a buyer safely

Never release a vehicle before payment clears.

Meet in daylight in a public place, let the buyer inspect and test drive with you present, and complete the transfer paperwork properly. Do not hand over keys or documents on a promise.

  • ✓Verify payment has cleared before transfer.
  • ✓Keep the documents with you until then.
  • ✓Complete the ownership transfer properly.
