Juuhudi Cookie Policy

Effective date: 4 October 2026

This Cookie Policy explains how Juuhudi Technologies ("Juuhudi", "we", "us" or "our") uses cookies and similar technologies when you visit or use juuhudi.co.ke and the Juuhudi marketplace.

It explains what these technologies are, why we use them, how long they may remain on your device and how you can control them. This policy should be read together with our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect, use, share and protect personal data.

1. What are cookies and similar technologies?

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to save on your phone, tablet or computer. Cookies allow a website to recognise a browser for a limited time and can help the website keep you signed in, remember a preference, protect an account or understand how the service is used.

We also use similar technologies, including local storage, session storage, pixels, software development kits, security tokens and privacy-preserving identifiers. These technologies do not all work in the same way and some do not store anything on your device. We refer to them together as "cookies and similar technologies" in this policy.

Cookies may be:

  • Session cookies, which normally expire when you close your browser; or
  • Persistent cookies, which stay on your device until their set expiry date or until you delete them.

They may also be:

  • First-party cookies, set by Juuhudi; or
  • Third-party cookies, set by a service we use, such as an analytics, security or advertising provider.

2. Why does Juuhudi use these technologies?

We use cookies and similar technologies to:

  • operate the marketplace and its core features;
  • keep members signed in and protect accounts;
  • remember your answer to our cookie notice and other small choices;
  • detect bots, fraud and automated abuse;
  • understand how visitors use Juuhudi and improve the service;
  • measure site reliability, speed and performance; and
  • measure the effectiveness of Juuhudi advertising and reach people who may be interested in the marketplace.

We do not sell personal data. Juuhudi does not use advertising cookies to place third-party advertisements inside the marketplace.

3. What types of cookies do we use?

Strictly necessary cookies

These technologies are required for Juuhudi to operate securely. They support functions such as signing in, maintaining an account session, preventing fraud, protecting forms and remembering your answer to our cookie notice.

Strictly necessary cookies are always active because the service cannot work securely without them. You can block them in your browser, but some parts of Juuhudi may stop working, including sign-in and other account features.

Functional storage

These technologies remember small choices you make so the marketplace behaves the way you expect. For example, they remember that you dismissed a prompt to install the app, to turn on notifications or to join our WhatsApp channel, so we do not keep showing it, and which listings you have already viewed during a visit, so that each view is counted once.

They are kept in your browser's local or session storage, are not shared with other companies and are set when you make the choice. Clearing your browser storage resets them.

Analytics and performance cookies

These technologies help us understand how Juuhudi is used. They can tell us, for example, which pages are visited, how visitors move through the site, which features are used, whether an error occurred and how quickly pages load. We use these insights to improve the marketplace.

Our product analytics tool stores a cookie or reads information on your device only after you select Okay on our cookie notice or switch analytics on in Cookie settings. Until then, and whenever analytics is off, it measures your visit without storing anything on your device, using a privacy-preserving technique that does not directly identify you. We also use cookie-free, aggregated tools to measure traffic, page speed and errors.

We also keep a note of how you found Juuhudi in a cookie of our own for the length of your visit: the campaign tags on the link you followed (for example, that it came from our WhatsApp channel), whether you arrived by tapping one of our adverts, and the first page you landed on. It holds nothing that identifies you, ends when you close your browser and is never shared. If you create an account or start a conversation during that visit, we record the same details with it, so that we know which channels bring members and conversations. We do not set it if you have switched analytics off in Cookie settings, and if you have switched marketing and advertising cookies off we do not record whether you arrived from an advert.

Marketing and advertising cookies

These technologies help us measure Juuhudi advertising, understand whether an advert led someone to visit or take an action, and build or measure audiences on advertising platforms. They do not place third-party adverts within Juuhudi.

They run on every visit to the marketplace unless you switch them off in Cookie settings (section 5). Our cookie notice does not switch them on or off. When you arrive by tapping one of our adverts, we may also keep a record of that advert in a cookie of our own, so that your visit can be credited to it. When you create an account or take certain actions, we may send the advertising platform a record of that action together with information such as your browser, your IP address and a scrambled (hashed) form of your email address or phone number, so that it can be matched to an advert. If you switch marketing and advertising cookies off, we stop all of these for that browser.

4. What technologies may be used?

The following table describes the main functions supported by cookies and similar technologies on Juuhudi. A particular technology may not be used on every page, device or visit. Names and durations may also change as we update the marketplace.

Purpose Category What it does When it is active Typical duration
Account authentication and sessions Strictly necessary Authenticates members, keeps account sessions secure and supports core marketplace functions. Whenever you are signed in. Until you sign out, or up to about 13 months if you stay signed in.
Cookie notice answer Strictly necessary Records your answer to our cookie notice and your choices in Cookie settings, so that we respect them and do not ask again. Always active. Up to 12 months, after which we ask again, unless you clear it sooner.
Security and fraud prevention Strictly necessary Protects forms and accounts, detects bots and automated abuse, and helps keep the marketplace secure. This may involve browser, device and IP-address signals. When a protected page, form or security check is used. Usually for the session or a limited security period.
Functional storage Functional Remembers that you dismissed a prompt or notice, and which listings you have viewed during a visit. When you make the choice or view a listing. Until you clear your browser storage. Viewed-listing records end when you close the tab.
Cookie-free traffic and performance measurement Analytics and performance Measures aggregated page traffic, reliability and performance without storing a cookie on your device. On every visit, using aggregated information that does not directly identify you. Nothing is stored on your device. Aggregated reporting data may be retained for a limited reporting period.
Product analytics Analytics and performance Helps us understand page visits, feature usage, errors and performance so we can improve Juuhudi. Stores or reads information on your device only after you select Okay on our cookie notice or switch analytics on in Cookie settings. Up to 12 months, unless you delete it sooner.
Visit source Analytics and performance Notes the campaign tags on the link you followed, whether you arrived from one of our adverts and the first page you landed on, so we know which channels bring members and conversations. Holds nothing that identifies you and is never shared. On the first page of a visit, unless you have switched analytics off in Cookie settings. Until you close your browser.
Advertising measurement Marketing and advertising Helps us measure campaigns, understand whether an advert led to a visit or action, and create or measure audiences on advertising platforms. On every visit, and when you arrive by tapping one of our adverts, unless you switch marketing and advertising cookies off in Cookie settings. Up to 90 days, unless you delete it sooner.

5. How can you manage your choices?

When you first visit Juuhudi, our cookie notice explains that we use cookies and links to this policy. Selecting Okay allows our product analytics tool to use cookies on your device. If you do not select Okay, it continues without storing anything on your device.

You can choose exactly which cookies we use at any time in Cookie settings:

  • Necessary cookies are always on, because Juuhudi cannot work without them.
  • Analytics cookies can be switched on or off. When they are off, your visits are still counted without storing anything on your device.
  • Marketing and advertising cookies can be switched off. When they are off, we stop the advertising measurement described in this policy for that browser.

Select Save my choices to keep your settings. They apply to this browser on this device, and you can change them again whenever you like.

You can also:

  • block or delete cookies in your browser settings; and
  • manage the ads you see in the ad settings of the apps and websites you use.

The steps differ by browser and device, so consult your browser's help pages. Blocking all cookies may prevent you from signing in or using parts of Juuhudi.

Choices are normally specific to a browser and device. If you use a different browser or device, clear your browser storage or browse privately, you may need to set your preferences again.

We keep cookies only for as long as they are needed for the purpose described in this policy.

  • Session cookies normally expire when you close your browser or sign out.
  • Sign-in cookies remain until you sign out, or for up to about 13 months if you stay signed in.
  • Security tokens may expire after minutes or after the configured security period.
  • The record of your answer to our cookie notice stays for up to 12 months, after which we ask again.
  • Optional analytics identifiers may remain for up to 12 months.
  • Advertising identifiers typically remain for up to 90 days.

You can remove cookies sooner through your browser settings. Removing a cookie from your device does not necessarily delete information that was already lawfully collected. Retention of personal data derived from these technologies is governed by our Privacy Policy and our agreements with service providers.

We use strictly necessary technologies because they are required to provide the service you request, protect accounts and pursue our legitimate interest in operating a secure marketplace. Functional storage serves the same interest and stays in your browser.

We rely on your consent, given by selecting Okay on our cookie notice or by switching analytics on in Cookie settings, for analytics cookies.

Where cookie-free analytics processes only aggregated information and does not store or read information on your device, we use it for our legitimate interest in understanding basic traffic and maintaining the reliability of Juuhudi. We configure these tools to minimise the information collected.

We use advertising measurement for our legitimate interest in measuring and improving Juuhudi advertising. You can switch it off at any time in Cookie settings, as described in section 5.

8. Do cookies involve personal data or international transfers?

Some cookie identifiers, IP addresses, device information and browsing activity may be personal data because they can distinguish a device or be connected with other information. When that happens, we handle the information in accordance with our Privacy Policy and the Data Protection Act, 2019 (Kenya).

Some of the providers we use process data outside Kenya, including in the European Union and the United States. Where personal data is transferred outside Kenya, we use providers and safeguards intended to meet applicable cross-border transfer requirements. See the International transfers section of our Privacy Policy for more information.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Cookie Policy when we change the technologies we use, how they work or the law that applies. We will publish the updated policy on this page and change the effective date. If a change materially affects your choices or how we use personal data, we will tell you through the marketplace or by email.
