What our reviewers check and how to pass the first time

Every listing submitted to Juuhudi is checked by a real person before it appears in the marketplace. The review helps keep misleading, incomplete and low-quality listings out of search results so buyers can spend more time considering genuine items.

Our team reviews the information presented in your listing. We check whether the photographs appear original and clearly show the item, whether the title and description are accurate, whether the selected condition matches the photographs and whether the asking price appears genuine. We also check that the item follows Juuhudi’s listing rules and does not contain public contact information or other unsafe details.

Most listings that are honest, complete and supported by clear photographs pass without difficulty. Before submitting, look at the listing from a buyer’s perspective: can they understand exactly what is being sold, see its current condition and decide whether it is worth arranging a viewing?

1. We check your photographs

Your photographs should show the actual item being offered, not a catalogue image, manufacturer photograph, screenshot or picture copied from another seller. Take the photographs in good daylight, keep the camera steady and remove unnecessary clutter from the background.

Begin with a clear photograph showing the complete item. Add other angles so buyers can understand its shape, size and condition. Include close photographs of labels, model numbers, accessories and important features where relevant. Any scratches, stains, cracks, repairs, rust, dents or missing parts should also be visible.

For electronics and appliances, show the item switched on where this can be done safely. For furniture, include the front, sides, back, joints and upholstery. For vehicles, include the exterior, interior, dashboard, tyres and any visible damage.

A listing may be returned when the photographs are dark, blurry, misleading, heavily edited or insufficient to verify what is being sold. Honest photographs reduce repetitive questions and make serious buyers more comfortable arranging a viewing.

2. We check the title and description

Your title should identify the item immediately. Include the item type and the details buyers are most likely to search for, such as the brand, model, size, material or year. “Samsung 43-inch Smart TV” is more useful than “TV for sale,” while “Five-seater grey fabric sofa” is clearer than “Good furniture.”

The description should answer the questions a serious buyer would normally ask before arranging a viewing. Depending on the item, include its age, measurements, capacity, working condition, ownership history, previous repairs, included accessories and collection or delivery arrangements.

Describe the current condition honestly. Mention scratches, stains, faults, missing parts or repairs even when they are visible in the photographs. Avoid exaggerated claims such as “brand new” when the item has already been used.

Do not add your phone number, exact home address or instructions to contact you outside Juuhudi. Buyers can message you privately through the marketplace. Listings with vague, contradictory or copied descriptions may be returned for clarification.

3. We check the condition you selected

Choose the condition that describes the item as it is today, not how it looked when purchased or how it might look after repairs. Our reviewer compares your selected condition with the photographs and description, so all three should tell the same story.

Consider the item’s appearance, age, working order, repairs and completeness. An item can work properly while still showing significant cosmetic wear. Similarly, something that looks clean may require a lower condition rating if an important function, accessory or component is missing.

The most common mistake is choosing a condition that is one level too optimistic. Normal scratches, fading, worn fabric, dents or previous repairs should be reflected in both the selected condition and the description. If you are deciding between two options, choose the more conservative one and explain why.

A realistic condition builds confidence and helps prevent disappointing viewings. Your listing may be returned when the selected condition clearly conflicts with the photographs or when faults mentioned in the description are not properly represented.

4. We check whether the price appears genuine

Enter the amount you genuinely expect a buyer to pay. The asking price should make sense for the item’s age, condition, working order, completeness and current demand in Kenya.

A price that is unusually low can make a genuine item look misleading or fraudulent, while an unrealistic price may waste your time and discourage serious enquiries. Avoid placeholder amounts such as KSh 1, prices entered only to attract clicks or descriptions that ask buyers to ignore the displayed price.

If you are uncertain, use Juuhudi’s second-hand price calculator as a starting point. Compare its estimate with similar items and adjust for repairs, missing parts, valuable accessories and collection or delivery costs.

Our review only checks whether the displayed price appears credible and consistent with the listing. It is not a professional valuation and does not guarantee that the item will sell at that amount. You remain responsible for choosing the final price and deciding whether to accept an offer from a buyer.

5. We check whether the item is allowed on Juuhudi

Juuhudi is a marketplace for genuine second-hand physical items. Reviewers check that the item can legally and safely be offered and that the seller appears to have the right to sell it.

You may not list:

• Weapons, ammunition or explosives.
• Counterfeit, replica or stolen goods.
• Medicines, pharmaceuticals or medical devices.
• Expired, recalled or unsafe products.
• Animals, human remains or hazardous materials.
• Brand-new goods being sold commercially.
• Services, digital products or other intangible items.
• Anything illegal to sell or possess in Kenya.

Photographs and descriptions copied from another seller are also prohibited. You must own the listing content or have permission to use it, and the item shown should be in your possession.

Some categories require additional care. Damaged protective equipment, expired child-safety products and items subject to a manufacturer recall should not be passed on.

Submitting a prohibited item can result in the listing being rejected or removed and may lead to restrictions on your account. Review the current Juuhudi Terms of Service if you are uncertain.

6. We check for private or unsafe information

Do not place your phone number, email address, exact home address or payment details in the title, description or photographs. This information would be visible to everyone who opens the listing, including people who have not verified a Juuhudi account.

Interested buyers should contact you through Juuhudi messages first. This keeps your personal contact information private, gives both sides a record of what was discussed and allows you to decide whether and when to share additional details.

You can state the general area where the item is available, such as Nairobi, Westlands or Kiambu, but share a precise meeting or collection point privately only after you are comfortable with the buyer. Avoid photographs that accidentally reveal house numbers, identification documents, vehicle logbooks, receipts containing personal details or account information displayed on a screen.

Listings may be returned when they direct buyers to call, text, email or contact the seller through another platform. Remove the private information and use Juuhudi’s messaging system instead.

7. The most common reasons listings are returned

Most listings are returned because the reviewer needs clearer or more accurate information, not because the item can never be listed.

Common reasons include:

• Dark, blurry or incomplete photographs.
• Catalogue images, screenshots or photographs copied from elsewhere.
• A title that does not clearly identify the item.
• Missing details such as the model, dimensions, working condition or included parts.
• A condition rating that is more optimistic than the photographs.
• Faults, damage or repairs that have not been disclosed.
• A placeholder, contradictory or implausible asking price.
• A phone number, exact address or outside contact instructions.
• Duplicate listings for the same item.
• An item that is prohibited or unsuitable for second-hand sale.

Read the reviewer’s feedback carefully before editing. Correct every issue mentioned and check the complete listing again, because changing only one photograph or sentence may not resolve the underlying problem.

Edit the existing listing rather than creating a new copy. This keeps the review history together and prevents several versions of the same item from entering the moderation queue.

8. How to pass review the first time

Before submitting, complete this final check:

1. Confirm that you selected the correct category.
2. Use a precise title containing the item type and its important identifying details.
3. Describe the age, specifications, condition, faults, repairs and included accessories.
4. Upload clear, original photographs of the complete item from several angles.
5. Show model numbers, working status and visible damage where relevant.
6. Choose a condition that matches both the photographs and description.
7. Enter a genuine asking price rather than a placeholder amount.
8. State the general location and explain collection or delivery for bulky items.
9. Remove phone numbers, exact addresses and other private information.
10. Check that the item is permitted on Juuhudi and safe to pass to another person.

A complete listing should allow a buyer to understand what is being sold before sending their first message. If important questions remain unanswered, add the information before submitting.

9. What happens after you submit

After you select Submit, the listing enters the review queue and is not yet visible to buyers. Reviews are usually completed within a few hours, although busy periods or listings requiring additional checks may take longer.

There are two main outcomes:

• Approved: The listing is published, and Juuhudi emails you when it is live. You can then open it, share its link and respond to interested buyers.
• Changes required: The listing remains unavailable to buyers, and Juuhudi explains what needs to be corrected. Edit the existing listing and submit it again after addressing every point.

You currently receive up to two free resubmissions for the same listing. If Listing Credits were used for the original submission, they pay for the review and are not returned simply because changes are required.

A listing can also be removed after approval if new information shows that it breaks Juuhudi’s rules or presents a risk to marketplace members.

10. What Juuhudi’s review does not guarantee

Juuhudi reviews the information submitted by the seller at a particular point in time. We do not visit the seller, physically inspect the item, test whether it works or independently authenticate its brand, ownership, safety or legality.

Approval means the photographs, description, selected condition and asking price were suitable for publication based on the information available to the reviewer. It does not certify the item, guarantee that every statement is correct or promise that the transaction will be successful.

Buyers should inspect the item carefully before paying. They should test important functions, compare the item with its description, confirm what is included and walk away if anything appears different from the listing.

Sellers should continue to keep the listing accurate after approval. Update it if the condition, included accessories, price or availability changes, and mark it as sold promptly when it is no longer available.

Human review reduces uncertainty, but honest sellers and careful buyers remain essential to a trustworthy marketplace.
